Interface Suggestions & Changes

I am about ready to start incorporating the racers name into the interface of both the bar and clock display. Here are current screenshots of both.

Here are my thoughts. For the bar display put their names on the bars that are in the top rectangle. See some of the old videos if you have not seen the bar display in action. I thought I remembered that I had a problem with putting labels on the bars when I was developing it. I will have to try it again. Name probably also need to be in the racer boxes.

On the clock display I think the only place I can put them is on the boxes. There is still room with what is displayed in the boxes now. I am thinking of removing the meter display on the boxes. It is not really necessary since you have either the bar and speed or the clock hands to give you progress display. So if I remove the meter count from the bar screen I can get the names at the top and move the time down.

Does anyone feel really strong about keeping the meter display? Speak up now before I make the change. Here is what the new racer boxes will most likely look like. If you have any other suggestions let me know.

The boxes are shared between all displays so they have to work across the board. This is true for future displays as well. I don’t want to have different boxes for different displays. It is much easier to just move their position around depending on the interface you choose to display than having different layouts between each display.

If you have any other suggestions I am all ears.

  1. Had out first race today using the software – it rocks ! thank you so much. I have one comment – would be great to have a bolder version of the font on the boxes or another font which is thicker- it is on the thin side making it a little hard to read.

  2. Wow, all the way from Beijing China! I couldn’t be happier right now. You are the first, I think, to use it other than me in an event. Did you get any photos of the event showing the software? I would LOVE to see any photos you took at the event!

What is the name of your club?

What display did you like better the clock display or the bar/speed display?

Log a ticket on the Support page and I am sure I can get bolder font. http://www.goldsprintsfx.com/support/

Thanks for the feedback. Just wait until the next version. It has a full rostering system build it. Now racers names are shown in the boxes now. Times are kept and a lot of other improvements.

  3. Wow – we were the first ! Actually we set it up at a fixed gear event in Beijing (the opening of China’s first fixed gear shop – http://www.natooke.com) as a side display. We ran around about 20 races which were mostly just for fun. It was a big hit with Chinese of all ages. There was even a journalist at the event – http://news.xinhuanet.com/edu/2010-03/07/content_13117895.htm
that took a pic of the set up – with GFX in the background.

We had such great feedback that we will run our first proper goldsprints event this weekend in a cool bar in an arts district down the road from the fixed shop. Really looking forward to the next beta – would be great to have the racers names !

We used the Clock interface for most of our races. The bar interface is nice as well but the clock seems to help the crowd get involved – especially when 2 races are neck and neck.

Keep up the great work !

  4. This is so cool. Your the first to use GFX in a live event and now the first to post a photo of GFX in the wild. I love it! I am going to post this to the blog right now!

Thanks for sharing. This is the kind of thing that keeps the development moving forward!

    Cheers,
